Katy Perry Was In Bed For ‘Almost Two Weeks’ Following Her Divorce
Katy Perry recently opened up about her divorce from comedian and actor Russell Brand. Although she’s doing fine now, the singer admits that the split took its toll on her.
The former couple hasn’t exactly shied away from discussing their divorce with the press. During her interview with the Sunday Times, Katy Perry revealed how the breakup affected her on an emotional level. Judging from her comments, the singer had a pretty tough go of it.
“I was in bed for about two weeks. I was pretty f***ed, yes. It hurt a lot — I got a good knock,” she explained to the publication.
Despite the emotional turmoil the divorce introduced into her life, Katy Perry used these emotions to fuel her latest album Prism. According to Us Weekly, the singer said the new songs are a lot different than the tunes found on her previous effort Teenage Dream.
“What I wanted to call this record at first was ‘Adult Reality,’ because ‘Teenage Dream’ was me so high on that cotton-candy cloud, and then it’s like I got punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times. I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine,” she said.
Katy Perry added, “[‘By the Grace of God’] is very autobiographical. I was down and out, I’d lost hope, all of my confidence had been shattered.”
The Inquisitr previously reported that the Smurfs 2 star contemplated suicide following her split from Brand. Instead of taking her own life, Perry channeled all of those emotions into her new album.
“All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs,” she told Billboard.
The “Roar” singer said that putting all of her self-worth into the hands of another person played a huge role in her downward spiral. Since Russell Brand had such a hold on her, the divorce ultimately left her feeling “shattered.” However, Katy Perry said she is doing much better these days.
A source recently told E! News that Katy Perry and John Mayer are “very close.” The insider also dished that the two could get engaged at some point in the not-too-distant future. However, the singers haven’t confirmed these rumors as of this writing.
