Since suffering a massive defeat at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, most mixed martial arts fans have patiently been waiting for the return of former UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor to the Octagon. Though he's coming off back-to-back losses, McGregor still continues to be linked to several big names in the UFC for his next match, including UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, and Nate Diaz. However, recently, there are rumors that "The Notorious" could enter the boxing ring again.
MMA News: MayMac 2 Happening Soon? Dana White Breaks Silence On Potential Rematch Between Conor McGregor & Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Potential Rematch With Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Though McGregor's camp is yet to confirm whether he's already fully recovered from a leg injury or not, talks about his potential rematch with undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather have started to surface on the internet. According to Ben Thompson of Fight Hype, an outlet known close to Mayweather's camp, "The Notorious" and "Money" are currently having conversations about making the MayMac 2 happen soon. Thompson noted that McGregor confirmed his second fight with Mayweather himself when he posted "I accept" on his Instagram account.
Floyd Mayweather Aiming For Another Huge Payday

It is hardly surprising that McGregor and Mayweather are considering a rematch. Most people might have viewed their first fight as lopsided, but it was still a huge financial success. MayMac 1, which ended with Mayweather defeating McGregor via a 10th round TKO, generated 4.3 million domestic pay-per-view buys and more than $600 million in total revenue. However, though he seemed to enjoy embarrassing McGregor in the boxing ring, Mayweather's decision to face him again is financially motivated. As Thompson noted, Mayweather is expected to demand a "9-figure payday" to make the MayMac 2 happen.
Dana White On MayMac 2

The rumors about the potential rematch between McGregor and Mayweather quickly spread around the world of fighting sports and reached UFC President Dana White. With McGregor still under contract with the UFC, White should be part of the negotiation if both camps are really considering the MayMac 2. However, when asked about the MayMac 2 on The Jim Rome Show, White said that if McGregor would fight again, it would be in the Octagon and not in the boxing ring.
“Not me, I’m not talking about that,” White said, as quoted by MMA Fighting. “[Conor’s return] will be in the cage. Conor’s looking to come back the end of this year, early next year.”
Conor McGregor Still Very Interested In Fighting

Though he was forced to undergo an MMA hiatus due to injury, White has been in constant communication with McGregor. Despite his financial success from his previous matches, White said that "The Notorious" is still very motivated to fight.
“When I do talk to Conor, Conor wants to fight,” White said. “Conor gets all kinds of offers for movie roles and all these other things that he could go and do and make money. He doesn’t want to do any of that. Conor wants to fight.”
