A 1-year-old baby boy was shot dead in his stroller on Sunday night while he was out with his parents on a street in Brooklyn, New York near their home in the Brownsville neighborhood.
If you hit that button, you can see a video report about Antiq Hennis, who was shot in the left side of the head and pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.
According to The New York Times , the 1-year-old was shot in his stroller at roughly 7 pm. The police told the NYT reporter on the scene Sunday night that it wasn’t yet clear who the shooter was aiming at.
But in a later New York Post report, the police said that the gunman was likely aiming for Antiq’s father Anthony Hennis. He has a long criminal history including over 20 arrests for drugs, weapons, assault, and other charges in both New York and Pennsylvania.
As you’ll see in the video, the police may have a suspect in mind. It’s possible that there could be an arrest soon.
The sad news comes only days after an incident Thursday night in New Orleans where a 13-month-old baby was shot dead while in the arms of someone described as an 18-year-old babysitter.
The teen may have been the target. She was shot in the back as they were walking in the violent Central City neighborhood. The bullets went through her body and killed the child.
Another well-publicized shooting of a baby in a stroller achieved some closure this week. De’Marquise Elkins was convicted Friday of shooting 13-month-old Antonio Santiago dead in his stroller after he bungled a Brunswick, Georgia robbery of the baby’s mother Sherry West .
Elkins won’t face the death penalty because he himself was only 17 when he shot the 1-year-old baby in his stroller.
