Macomb Township, MI – Kid Rock organized the donation of a home to an Afghanistan veteran who lost the lower part of his right leg while serving with the United States Army. Kid Rock worked in conjunction with Operation Finally Home , a non-profit groups which aids wounded Texas veterans, to secure a new home for Sgt. Davin Dumar and his wife Dana.
Wounded warrior Sgt. Davin Dumar and his wife were touring what they thought was a model home when they were surprised to find Kid Rock, a host of their relatives, friends and members of the media waiting inside to greet them. Sgt. Dumar will now be living mortgage-free inside the 2,600-square-foot colonial style home in Macomb Township, Michigan according to the Heritage Newspaper.
“First of all, welcome home. You are going to receive a fully-furnished home, top to bottom. Thank you for your service,” Kid Rock told the stunned couple, the Heritage Newspaper reports.
Sgt. Davin Dumar was released late last week from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
“I don’t know what to say other than shock and amazement,” Sgt. Dumar noted in front of the media assembled during the surprise home reception. “I’ve been a fan of his (Kid Rock) since I was little,” WCRZ reports.
Both Davin and Dana Dumar were reportedly overwhelmed with the generous gift of a home and were at a loss for words. Sgt. Dumar joined the Army in 2005 and was deployed to Afghanistan with the 1-25th SBCT in 2011. During an Army patrol in Afghanistan Sgt. Dumar’s unit was engaged by enemy forces and he was struck by an improvised explosives device. In addition to the partial leg amputation, Sgt. Dumar also suffered injuries to both his hands, the Oakland Press reports.
Kid Rock partnered with Operation Finally Home founder Dan Wallrath to help expand the Texas-based home funding project for wounded warriors to include veterans from Michigan. Bloomfield Hills-based Pulte Homes donated the cost of the construction for Sgt. Davin Gumar’s home. Kid Rock is a longtime supporter of US troops. The Michigan singer has performed benefit concerts in both the United States and the Middle East. Kid Rock reportedly wanted to do something close to home and was impressed with Operation Finally Home’s record for helping veterans.
