Son $7 Million Lottery Ticket: Dad Gives Son ‘Get Well Soon’ Card With Lottery Ticket, He Wins Big

A son won $7 million on a lottery ticket that was given to him by his dad inside of a “get well soon” card. According to the Huffington Post , Joseph Amorese was at his home in Easton, Pennsylvania, recovering from hernia surgery when he received a thoughtful card from his dad. Little did he know that the contents of that card would change his life.

Amorese scratched the $25 New York lottery ticket (the “Golden Ticket” was just released about three months ago), and was shocked to find out that he won millions.

“I took my glasses off, I’m looking at it, I was pretty shocked to say the least. I had surgery so I didn’t jump up and down, but in my mind I was jumping up and down,” he said.

The son held the $7 million lottery ticket in his hand for a photo, and quickly sent the picture to his father, who confirmed that the ticket was indeed a big winner. Amorese then called his wife, and told her the exciting news. She was also stunned.

According to NewsOXY, the couple will receive a lump sum of about $4.6 million after taxes. As far as what the couple plans on doing with their new riches, they aren’t really thinking of anything extravagant. They say that they will invest a lot of it, but that they will both keep working despite the fact that they are now millionaires.

“I don’t expect [my life] to change a whole lot… I’m still going to go to work every day. My wife’s gonna go to work,” said Amorese.

“I still don’t know what to say. I’m still dumbfounded by this whole thing,” said his wife, Jodi.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , most people who win the lottery choose to take a lump sum payout .

“Most lottery winners take a lump sum payment instead of receiving their jackpot in installments over time thinking, that they can make more money with investments on the initial total rather than waiting. When they do, there is a penalty, and the lottery winner usually ends up with around half of what the total jackpot was.”

Hopefully, Amorese shares his $7 million with his dad, who bought him the lottery ticket to begin with. Either way, it sounds like Amorese deserved the money — his mom said he has made her very proud over the years.

“He asked me what did I do to deserve this and I said because he’s a good person. Joseph struggled and put himself through school and made me a very proud momma,” said his mom, Kathleen.
