3 sisters held a joint, last-minute, wedding for their dying mother in Snellville, Georgia, before she died just 12 hours later.
After being informed that their mother, Becky Swales, now had liver cancer, after it had spread there from her breast, the trio of sisters, Sarah, Jodie, and Kaylee Swales, decided to bring their weddings forward so that their mother could witness each of them get married.
Doctors had told the siblings that there was nothing they could do for Becky, which lead the 19, 21, and 22 year-olds to move the ceremony from its original date of October 26.
Becky sat proudly in the front row alongside her husband, and the girl’s father, Otis, and watched the service unfold, with each daughter marrying their fiancee in turn, surrounded by her devoted friends and family. However, on Monday she succumbed to the cancer that she had been fighting for over four years, only hours after the wedding had culminated.
Jodie Swales , before the ceremony, remarked, “It’s kind of bittersweet. We are happy that she’s here, but this will probably be the last big thing that we do with her.”
Sarah then added, “It’s not like losing a mom, it’s like losing a mom and a best friend and anyone would want their best friend at their wedding. Our wedding wouldn’t be the same if she wasn’t there to experience it with us.”
Otis, who walked each of his daughter’s down the aisle, noted, “My wife is the love of my life, so it’s hard. But I’m proud of my daughters. I just pray God gives me strength to get through every day.”
Just before her death, Becky, who was married to Otis for 25 years, took to Facebook to write, “I thank God for waking me up every day. I have such a great support system. My loving husband, my three beautiful daughters and my Mom have stood by me every step of the way. I can’t say enough about what a blessing that has been.”
