RIM Begins Playbook Production, Starts With Small Numbers
Research In Motion has sent their Blackberry Playbook to the production line, ordering in the vicinity of 150,000-200,000 units per month from their Quanta’s Taiwan plant.
According to reports, the first batch of units will be available in February, with all tablets being made in Taiwan so Chinese “white-box” manufacturers can’t company security specifications and manufacturing specs.
Some fears have surfaced that Quanta will not be able to meet capacity demands through Taiwanese production, however the facility has stated that at the current time their China based plants are not required.
The Playbook is scheduled for a March release date and production numbers could increase if initial demand is high. [via VentureBeat]
