2010 Arizona Cardinals season in review

Let’s face it; this is a pretty bad football team. They did manage to win five games but the offense needs work. Well that might not be their problem right now; really it is the defense that needs work. This team needs a lot of things, and all of those things were exposed during the 2010 NFL regular season. After a 3-5 start they lost seven games in a row. All of that following a bye week, that scares me a little and maybe Ken Whisenhunt should have been replaced. Granted personnel is this team central issue, but Ken seems to have done a poor job with what he had.

The offense scored 289 points or 18.1 points per game. That was good enough for 26th of the 32 NFL teams. About the only thing we know for sure is Derek Anderson proved he is not the guy for this team. Also we learned that the running game needs an adjustment since they only averaged 86.8 rushing yards per game. Since the O line also gave up 50 sacks maybe the problems lay there. However it mostly looks like this team needs a new QB option.

It is still me belief that the defense is the main problem here. They gave up 434 points or 27.1 points per game. They gave up 242.6 passing yards per game and 145.1 rushing yards per game on average. That tells me they are deficient in the line backing corps and in the secondary. They register 33 sacks and had a take away differential of -5.

The Cardinals have to decide if John Skelton can be the man, or if they need to draft another QB. Skelton’s numbers in five games were pretty low, and his completion percentage was just 47.6. Max Hall played in six games and threw far too many picks to get the starting nod. All of that seems to suggest the answer at QB is not currently on the roster.
