Could Bill Cowher land in Houston?
Ok, so far in the 2010 NFL season three head coaches have been fired. At least seven more rest on very hot seats. I would have said eight but Jim Schwartz of the Detroit Lions deserves one more year. Of course we can now start to speculate on who will end up where. I think Jason Garrett and Leslie Frazier stay on with the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings respectively. That would leave the Denver Broncos in need of a new head man currently. Of course the Houston Texans, San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Cincinnati Bengals all may be searching for new coaches come the off season.
Bill Cowher has alluded to the fact that he is ready to return to the NFL sidelines. I don’t think the Houston Texans are the best fit for him though. True the Texans have been treading water the last few years and have been a big disappointment so far in 2010. I think they will fire Gary Kubiak, but I also think they would rather have Jeff Fisher be their man once he finally leaves the Titans.
Of all these jobs I think Cowher is the best fit for the Carolina Panthers. He is from Carolina, and that makes it an attractive job. He would also get the chance to rebuild that team his way. He would likely get a chance to draft a new QB in next year’s draft and start a massive rebuild effort. Of course that is just my opinion on the matter.
Of all the coaches about to get fired (or sitting on a very hot seat) I think Marvin Lewis will be the most likely to get another head coaching spot (beyond Fisher who will have multiple offers the day of his eventual termination from the Titans). Where Lewis could end up his anyone’s guess, but I do not think Cowher will end up in Houston.
