A new perfume’s scent , created by Sanae Barber, smells like marijuana.
Barber will release the product through her company Sanae Intoxicants, but there will only be a seldom amount of bottles available of the limited edition blend. It was created for LA folk singer, Josh Tillman, who works under the name, Father John Misty.
The Cut has described Ms Barber as the go-to perfumer of the rock world, and she creates unisex scents to “suit the free spirit of the modern, stylish hippie tribes of California.”
Barber’s perfume is called, “ Innocence by Misty ,” and it has been described as having soft scent with orange blossoms. However others, as well as its creator, have stated that it reminds them of something else, that is only legal in a few states.
Barber told The Cut, “I was immediately reminded of medicinal marijuana drops. I love the way that marijuana smells. I think weed tinctures are really lovely.”
She also added that her collaboration with Tillman, as well as the singer, Bonnie Prince Billy, only occurred because they partied together so often.
She then added, “I think if the scents themselves as songs and stories, and people will have their own experience with them. I think with any kind of scent it is related to drugs and getting high because it creates an experience.”
Barber’s career began by accident when she was holidaying in Santa Cruz. Whilst on the west coast she was inspired to start blending, and after creating Meadow Slumber, her first scent, she became addicted to the art.
Her popularity grew organically, as people would stop her on the street, inquire about what she was wearing, and then ask if they could purchase it. Barber does everything herself, including boxing and mailing the products.
There will only be 300 bottles of, “Innocence by Misty,” available, each of which will cost $75.
