Usher Asks Judge To Lower Child Support Payments
Usher has asked a judge to lower his child support payments to his ex-wife.
The singer filed documents earlier this month asking that his payments to Tameka Foster be lowered from $8,000 a month for their two sons, Usher V and Naviyd Eli.
The 34-year-old said the child support amount was from an old agreement. The singer was granted primary custody of the boys last year, but the payments don’t reflect this change. He said he has been overpaying for the last seven months and wants a judge to fix the situation.
Foster filed an emergency request for custody of the boys on Tuesday, a day after Usher V almost drowned in a backyard pool. The boy was swimming with his aunt when he saw a toy in the pool drain. He tried to pull the toy out, but his arm got stuck. His aunt and a maid tried to free him, but were unable to. Finally, two men working in the house came out and were able to get Usher V’s arm out of the drain. He was given CPR and rushed to the hospital.
Foster said that Usher was creating a dangerous environment for their children. She used the pool accident as an example of Usher’s inattentiveness. She also said he had given up his parental responsibilities by letting incompetent people care for their sons. She previously complained about the boys’ aunt, Rena Oden, after she allegedly allowed a stalker inside the house. She also claimed that Oden was too physical when disciplining the children.
Usher’s lawyer fought back, saying the children have thrived with him, despite the pool accident. A judge took Usher’s side and dismissed Foster’s request for primary custody Friday. She retained some visitation rights.
Usher V is still in the hospital, but Foster posted photos of him on Instagram, and he appears to be recovering well.
Do you think Usher’s child support payments should be lowered?
