Florida mom shakes baby to death for interrupting Farmville game
The massive Facebook-centric game Farmville, which in the past has gotten headlines for getting people fired, is in the news again for a less than positive reason.
A young Florida woman has pled guilty to second-degree murder for the shaken baby syndrome death of her three-month-old son Dylan Lee Edmondson. 22-year-old Alexandra Tobias is said to have grown frustrated when the child would not stop interrupting her game of Farmville with his cries:
Tobias told investigators that she shook the baby, smoked a cigarette to compose herself and then shook him again. She said the baby may have hit his head during the shaking.
Tobias entered her plea in court Wednesday, and could receive life in prison for her role in the infant’s death. Under Florida sentencing guidelines, she could receive 25 to 50 years in jail. Prosecutor Richard Mantei says he offered Tobias the plea to spare the baby’s family the pain of reliving his tragic death during a trial. Tobias is set to be sentenced in December.
