‘True Blood’ Star Janina Gavankar Joins ‘The Vampire Diaries’

True Blood star Janina Gavankar is joining another set of small-screen bloodsuckers.

The actress has reportedly landed a role in the fifth season of the CW drama The Vampire Diaries. At least she goes into the series with plenty of vampire-related experience.

Janina Gavankar has been tapped to play Tessa on the show. The character is expected to make her first appearance on the series during the third episode of the new season. Tessa is said to return to the town of Mystic Falls in hopes of finding a lost love.

Although the actress’ involvement with The Vampire Diaries is pretty much a done deal, it’s currently unknown how big her role will be on the show. At the moment, it’s unclear if Tessa will be a recurring character.

Janina Gavankar ended her run on the popular HBO series True Blood during season six. Since she has plenty of experience dealing with on-screen vampires, her jump from one blood-sucking show to another makes perfect sense.

Of course, this isn’t the actress’ first rodeo with the folks at the CW. She previously made guest appearances on Arrow.

Gavankar has appeared in a number of television programs over the years. Her credits include The Gates, The L Word, Traffic Light, and The League. She also appeared on The Cleaner, Three Rivers, Dollhouse, and Grey’s Anatomy.

The Vampire Diaries is currently expected to return to the airwaves on Thursday, October 3. The debut episode of the fifth season will reportedly take place several months after the season four finale. If you’re not familiar with what’s happening in Mystic Falls, then there’s still plenty of time to get caught up on everything.
