Barbie Portraying ‘Average Woman’ Gets Praise From Demi Lovato
Have you seen the new Barbie? OK, so maybe it’s not an official Mattel product but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less awesome. Artist Nickolay Lamm recently created a realistic Barbie doll that resembles an “average 19-year-old” woman and the product is gaining support from celebrities like Demi Lovato.
Several people on Twitter are actually claiming that Demi Lovato was the inspiration for the new Barbie. The singer told her fans that she didn’t have anything to do with the doll but she still thinks that it’s pretty great.
Demi said: “I didn’t do this, BARBIE did and it’s so amazing that they did!!!”
Demi also added that the new Barbie has a pretty amazing backside.
The singer said: Can I also say, that… That new @barbie‘s got BACK!!!!! Hahahaha #bootybootybootyboottrockineverywhere”
And while we’re cleaning up some rumors about the new Barbie doll, you should probably know that this isn’t a licensed Mattel product. Artist Nickolay Lamm created the doll to show that women don’t have to look like the classic Barbie doll to look beautiful and has no plans, at least at the moment, to put the product on store shelves.
Mattel hasn’t commented on the average looking Barbie just yet.
Lamm said: “I created normal Barbie because I wanted to show that average is beautiful … If average-looking Barbie looks this good and if there’s even a chance of Barbie negatively influencing young girls, why not make one?”
Do you think Mattel should make an “Average Looking Barbie Doll?” You can see more photos of Lamm’s creation here. You might also want to check out Lamm’s other Barbie inspired work which features the classic doll without any makeup.
