A gypsy driver in Brooklyn died after being stabbed in the eye with an umbrella by a passenger.
Orji-Ama Uro let a man and woman out of the cab when the two started to argue with him. The man became violent and stabbed an umbrella through the cab driver’s eye, piercing his brain. Uro then hit the gas and crashed into some parked cars.
The man quickly ran away from the crime scene and the woman calmly walked away. The murder weapon was not found. Police are still trying to figure out why the man attacked Uro. They first thought the cab driver was robbed, but he still had money in his pocket.
“The scene was gruesome,” Fernando Mateo, president of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, said. “His face was just exploded with blood.”
Uro came to the United States from Nigeria 10 years ago with his five children and worked long hours. He worked hard to support his family but was worried about the dangers of driving a cab .
His sister-in-law, Chinedum Agwu, said Uro came to the United States for a better life.
“He wanted to stop doing that and find something else, because it’s a dangerous job,” she said. “He worried about being killed a lot. And we worried, too.”
Lena Taylor, who lived down the street from the incident , said that she heard a loud bang and ran to her window . “I saw the cabdriver bleeding like crazy. His face was full of blood.”
The police are seeking a black man and woman in their mid-20s for the death of Uro. A $5,000 award is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
What do you think should happen to the man and woman if they are caught?
