Joran Van Der Sloot To Marry In Prison

Convicted killer Joran van der Sloot is set to get married in a Peruvian prison in the next few weeks, according to his lawyer. Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year conviction.

Van der Sloot and the woman, 23-year-old Leydi Figueroa, are reportedly in love and are waiting for permission from penal authorities in Piedras Gordas prison.

The wedding is apparently set to happen within the next two weeks. Lawyer Maximo Altez added, “He is in love, that is what motivates all men [to get married], he truthfully is in love.”

Altez’s comment about love was likely made to stamp out rumors that Joran van der Sloot is marring a Peruvian woman in an attempt to avoid extradition to the United States. He is the main suspect int he disappearance of US teen Natalie Holloway.

Holloway disappeared in 2005 while she was vacationing in Aruba, where van der Sloot is from. The girl was 18 when she vanished during the high school graduation trip. She was last seen leaving a bar on May 30, 2005 with the now-convicted murderer.

Holloway’s body was never recovered, though a judge has since declared her dead. Along with possible murder charges, Joran van der Sloot also faces extortion and wire fraud charges in Alabama, which are in connection with Holloway’s unsolved disappearance.

Van der Sloot apparently met his fiance while she was selling goods inside the prison in Peru. She visited him constantly. He began taking the steps needed to marry her in prison several months ago. Altez also denied rumors that Leydi Figueroa gave birth to van der Sloot’s son.

The news of Joran van der Sloot’s upcoming marriage comes the same day as Altez sought a sentence reduction from 28 to 20 years for him. He was convicted in the 2010 murder of a young Lima woman he met while at a casino.

The lawyer added, “He wants to get married, change his life, make a new life.” Are you surprised to hear that Joran van der Sloot may get married next month?
