It’s National Margarita Day 2010
It seems these days that every day and week celebrates some cause or another, but here’s one day we can get behind: National Margarita Day 2010.
Described as America’s favorite tequila-based cocktail, the Margarita traces its heritage back to 1948, although given the disputed stories about who created it first, we’re not sure whether today celebrates an anniversary, or was simply plucked out of thin air.
The drink is named after socialite Margarita Sames, who according to the story created the drink at a party to please her guests. The legend claims that after inventing it, the party went on for two weeks.
For those who’ve never sampled a Margarita before, the classic version of the drink consists of 1 ½ ounces tequila. 1 ounce Cointreau, ½ ounce lime juice, and a lime wedge for garnish.
A note to the wise though: enjoy National Margarita Day 2010 in moderation. I’m not suggesting this because I’m a wowser, it’s because it contains Tequila, and too much Tequila isn’t very nice the morning after, in my experience far more so than other spirits ?
