Fox has announced that it is launching a sister network to FX and has dubbed that network FXX. FXX will be officially on the air on September 2 and there are at least four shows that have already been slated for the new channel.
Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia and The League are two of the shows that will move to the new network for their 9th and 5th seasons respectively.
Fox announced that they are also renewing both of those shows for yet another year. That means that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been guaranteed a 10th season while The League is getting at least six.
In addition to those two well established comedies, FXX will also be getting a couple of fledgling shows. Totally Biased With W. Kamu Bell will be moving to the new network and will be changing from a weekly show to one that airs five nights a week.
Legit will also be moving for FX to the new network. As programming filler, FXX will also be showing reruns of shows such as Sports Night , Parks and Recreation , Arrested Development and Freaks & Geeks.
The network will apparently get a couple of new original comedies that will be phased in over the first two years of existence.
Company executives have said they plan to reach about 70 million homes in the first year of FXX’s existence. In order to have such a huge audience so quickly, there has been some speculation that they will be getting rid of the Fox Soccer channel.
FXX would then be able to go into an existing channel slot, instead of taking the time and expense of getting a brand new channel added to cable providers’ lineups.
Are you planning on watching Fox’s new channel, FXX when it launches this fall?
