Former Scientologist Claims Children Forced Into Labor Camp
Former Scientologist Jenna Miscavige Hill claims the church runs brutal child labor camps. The niece of Scientology leader David Micsavige also maintains she warned Katie Holmes about the child work ranch to protect the movie star mom and daughter Suri. The Church of Scientology has denied the claims in the former member’s new book.
Jena Miscavige Hill recently released Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape. The author grew up in the Church of Scientology and talked about her experiences an appearance on The View.
Misavige Hill claims that the condition she and the other Scientology children were forced to work under would have been difficult for an adult to endure. Talking back or complaining about the conditions inside the Scientology child labor camp was allegedly cause for strict disciplinary action.
Before leaving the Church of Scientology in 2005, Jenna Miscavige Hill said she spent six years doing incredibly difficult physical labor. She also claims that she and other members of the elite youth group known as Sea Org were sent to the child labor ranch and worked 14-hour days. According to David Miscavige’s niece, Sea Org children at the camp were only allowed to see their parents once a week – at most.
Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape text compares the alleged Scientology child labor camp to military boot camps. Jenna Miscavige Hill recalled participating in numerous muster drills, lengthy inspections, and long hours of backbreaking chores.
Celebrity Scientologists such as John Travolta and Tom Cruise has supposedly been shielded from the alleged mistreatment of children. Last summer, Jena Miscavige Hill posted a message on her website directed at Katie Holmes. The former Scientologist told the actress that she felt both physically and mentally abused at times during her childhood. She offered support to Katie and wished her the strength to take the steps necessary to make the best decisions for both herself and her daughter.
A statement issued from a Church of Scientology spokesperson maintains that those who do not like the religious order are always free to move their lives in another direction.
The Scientology official also stated that all religions have detractors. Statements Jenna Miscavige Hill and others should be taken with an “enormous grain of salt,” according to the church.
