Facebook gamers helping Haiti through FarmVille, Mafia Wars, Zynga Poker

Players of popular Facebook games such as FarmVille have been contributing toward the Haitian earthquake relief effort after the island nation was hit by a devastating earthquake this week.

Zynga, creator of FarmVille, Mafia Wars, and Zynga Poker, today announced that special items in its trio of popular games would generate proceeds for the Haiti Relief Fund.

Users can now buy white corn in FarmVille that will never wither, a Haitian drum in Mafia Wars, and a special chip package in Zynga Poker. 100% of the proceeds from each sale will go to the Haiti relief fund, and Zynga says players have already raised $1.2 million through buying these virtual goods. Way to go, players.

If you do dabble with any of these games, then I can’t think of a better excuse to part with a little money for the people of Haiti.
