Charlie Weis to become Chiefs Offensive Coordinator
He may have been fired in disgrace for the University of Notre Dame, but Charlie Weis is returning to a job for which he is far better suited. The Kansas City Chiefs, or the New England Patriots of the west, have reached an agreement to hire Weis as their offensive coordinator. Weis’ last gig in that capacity was with the Patriots, and all he did there was win three Super Bowls. In fact Weis is the man behind the legend that has become Tom Brady, and he will turn the Kansas City Chiefs into contenders.
This move makes all kinds of sense. Weis is an offensive genius, he and Chiefs Head Coach Tom Haley were both young assistants with the New York Jets. The Chiefs GM is Scott Pioli, who use to help the Patriots with personnel decisions, and the Chiefs QB is one Matt Cassel who was drafted by the Patriots and played the 2008 season for them after Brady was injured.
The Chiefs have all kinds of problems, some of which were on that offensive side of the ball. When we exclude rushing stats, the Chiefs offense was in the bottom ten of all NFL teams. Haley had tried to call his own plays after firing Coordinator Chan Gailey, but is ready to admit that a head coach should be the head coach, and the coordinator should run his offense.
Weis will begun working his magic once the final terms of the contract can be worked out. Weis also appeared to be in the running for the same job with the Chicago Bears, but given the amount of Ex-Patriots surrounding the Chiefs organization we can see why this decision was made.
