‘Twilight’ Star Celebrated Valentine’s Day Getting Divorced
More heartbreak involving a Twilight star is making headlines today. One of the series’ staples reportedly spent Valentine’s Day 2013 finally filing for divorce.
Michael Welch, who played the meek Mike Newton (a barely-there potential human suitor for Bella) in the Twilight series of films, filed for divorce from his estranged wife on February 14 (Valentine’s Day).
TMZ reports that the Twilight star filed a joint petition for divorce with his soon-to-be ex-wife Marissa Lefton on what is supposed to be our culture’s most romantic holiday.
The couple were married in 2008, but separated in December 2011 according to docs filed at LA County Superior Court.
It should be a pretty clean break. According to the docs, the couple don’t have any community property or kids together.
Welch was also in the news recently for giving a presentation on the Thirst Project at a Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School. Welch presented on February 8 for the nonprofit organization, which informs and empowers students regarding the global water crisis.
Whatever you think of Welch, he seems to at least be a pretty persuasive speaker. NJ.com reports that after the presentation, SCVTHS students and staff were so moved that they’re now working on creating a local chapter of the Thirst Project at the school.
Well, good for him.
