‘Fargo’ Season 4 Release Date Not Canceled: Noah Hawley Gives Renewed Hope For A New Cast In 2020 Premiere

The Fargo Season 4 release date has not been canceled completely despite reports to the contrary. Creator Noah Hawley hopes to see Fargo renewed in the future and has been dispelling rumors that audiences will never see future Fargo cast members in the fourth season.

The idea that FX networks had Fargo Season 4 canceled started out back in May when chief John Landgraf commented that there “may never be another Fargo.”

“Unless Noah has an idea for Fargo that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three,” Landgraf said. “I think once people get to the end of this [Season 3] they will find that it is thematically different. It’s really about the moment we live in now.”

The Fargo TV show is inspired by Coen brothers’ 1996 film of the same name. The second season was a prequel to the first season since it was an origin story, while the third season was a standalone story. The TV show seasons did have “some small elements” that connected the movie to earlier years.

Near the end of the third season, Hawley admitted that he had not yet come up with a story for Fargo Season 4. The creator says “you can’t mass produce this stuff,” citing how hard it is to come up with the complex themes and weave them together so there’s a good pay off for the audience.

However, Noah Hawley does not want fans to be told that the third season was the final ending. According to Deadline, the series creator agrees with the FX Networks chief “that the only reason to do another Fargo is if the creative is there,” but he does want to see Fargo renewed for a fourth season. Hawley just can’t point to a specific date on the calendar for when production of Fargo Season 4 might begin.

The reason for not announcing a Fargo Season 4 release date is because Hawley is simply busy with other commitments. Hawley’s next project is the second season of Legion. Then, in the winter of 2018, he may be working on an unrelated film. The second season of Fargo took about 15 months to pull together, so Hawley predicts that a reasonable Fargo Season 4 premiere date might be three years from now, or 2020.

This also means that the Fargo Season 4 cast list is completely up in the air. The recent season finale was open-ended, but some reviewers and fans felt the overall season was a dud. Fargo Season 4 could have a completely new setting, but we’ll just have to wait and see to find out.
