Song Hye-kyo, Kim Soo-hyun May Star In Korean Version Of ‘Sex And the City’
Hallyu stars Song Hye-kyo and Kim Soo-hyun will reportedly star in the Korean version of Sex and the City. Neither actors have confirmed nor denied the rumors, but the grapevine has it that the duo will star in this seemingly mega-hit series, which will draw millions of Chinese fans too.
The drama, like its Hollywood counterpart, sheds light on the lives of five women and their quest for career and romance. As the plot calls for multiple actors and actresses, Song Hye-kyo and Kim Soo-hyun may not necessarily be paired opposite each other.
Actress Song Hye-kyo has already revealed that she’d like to do a group project featuring many top stars.
In a recent interview with W magazine, the actress said she was looking forward to working in a project like Ocean’s Eleven.
“I heard they’re making a female version of Ocean’s Eleven in Hollywood. It would be great if there were something like that in Korea as well. I also want to try acting with fellow actors Jun Ji Hyun and Son Ye Jin, since their styles are very distinct from mine, and they already have a strong career in the movie industry,” she said. A Korean version of Sex and the City definitely fits the bill.
A source in Beijing confirmed that a Chinese version of the series has recently been sold to Korean broadcasters. The call for auditions will soon begin, and, most likely, the talented Song Hye-kyo and Kim Soo-hyun are already in the list of favorites among the casting team.

After the broadcast, the copyright will be sold back to China. By the time, one hopes that the blanket ban on Hallyu will be lifted, thereby pushing up the drama ratings. South Korea’s new president Moon Jae-in has promised that he will do all he can to revive Hallyu.
For now, Kim Soo-hyun is awaiting his movie Real, which will premiere by end of June. The handsome hallyu star is renowned for his roles in the television drama Moon Embracing the Sun, My Love from the Star, and The Producers.
Song Hye-kyo, on the other hand, hasn’t taken up any other project after the completion of Descendants of the Sun. The actress has also not hinted that she will be a part of the Korean version of Sex and the City. Nonetheless, if she does play the part, the series will be one of the first to witness success after China lifts its blanket ban on Hallyu.
Fans are also rooting for Song Hye-kyo to play the lead in the upcoming K-drama Mr Sunshine. For the third time, writer Kim Eun Sook will be teaming up with PD Lee Eung Bok—the duo responsible for the recent small screen blockbusters Goblin and Descendants of the Sun. In fact, this would be the perfect drama to cast Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo in, as the pair also recently won the DramaFever awards for the Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
According to a report by Soompi, Kim Eun-sook already has someone in mind to play the lead role.
“I do have someone in mind. Since the character’s narrative is strong and has a large breadth of emotions, the role needs to be played by someone who is very good at acting,” the writer said. Fans of Song Hye-kyo are pinning their hopes on “Unnie.” Mr. Sunshine will air in the first half of 2018.
Fans are also waiting for a Season 2 of Descendants of the Sun, hoping to see their favorite SongSong couple on the screen once again. Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo stole hearts globally when they were paired together in the military romance. Even after a year, social media hasn’t stopped talking about the enigmatic pair.
