Las Vegas Locos win premier UFL game

The UFL is off to a start. It is somewhat hard to gauge what kind of start since the expectations for this league are pretty low, but they held their first game last night on the cable channel versus live from Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. In that contest the Las Vegas Locos defeated the California Redwoods 31-17 in what was a pretty entertaining game.

What this league is exactly is still yet to be known. What it is not is the NFL, and that may be a very good thing. It is also not College Football, and not an Arena style league. This is going to be a nitch league for hardcore football fans to see players who never quite made it in the NFL, or are on the way up to the NFL. The best thing for this league would be to get a few of its players to play the full UFL season and then move up to the NFL to replace injured players there later in the NFL year.

This is going to be some kind of unofficial minor league to the NFL. While that may sound harsh, it is the kind of league that there seems to be a market for. As a die hard football fan myself I enjoy watching the guys who never quite made a huge impact in the NFL get another shot in the UFL.

Guys like QB JP Losman, who was a first round pick of the Buffalo Bills, and spent five years there essentially doing nothing, Seeing Losman go out in his UFL debut and throw for two TD’s and 226 yards, while going 21 for 31 was a very nice thing to witness.
