Sia Sings Rihanna’s Hit ‘Diamonds’: Well, She Did Write It [Video]

If you don’t know who Sia Furler — the superbly talented Australian singer-songwriter, is yet — you really should.

She’s the writer behind Rihanna’s so-hot-right-now hit single “Diamonds.”

No stranger to the charts herself, Sia burst onto the music scene in 2000. Her single “Taken for Granted”” was a Top 10 hit in the UK.

In between singing lead and writing with Jazz outfit Zero 7, the 36-year-old has released her own albums — notably 2008’s Some People Have Real Problems — which reached the Top 30 on Billboard’s 200 album chart.

Numerous awards later, Sia has written songs for Shakira, Christina Aguilera and featured on chart-stormers such as Wild Ones with rapper Flo Rida and Titanium with French dance titan David Guetta.

She also sang and wrote the sweeping ballad “My love” which featured in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2011 for “Burlesque,” the title song of the film that starred Aguilera and Cher.

But it’s the exquisite slow-tempo “Diamonds” that has Sia’s name — as well as Rihanna’s — on everyone’s lips right now.

Released as a single on September 30 in the UK on iTunes, “Diamonds” reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

It’s widely thought to be one of the best cuts off Rihanna’s Unapologetic album, currently #1 on Billboard’s 200 Album chart after selling 238,000 copies in one week.

Now you can hear Sia sing the song that took Unapologetic to the top of the charts.

Some might make comparisons, but true music lovers will simply relish the chance to hear how two stellar singers can put their own stamp on a great song.

Enjoy!
