Video shows Texas police tasering student pinned to the ground and not resisting arrest
Police in Lubbock, Texas are under fire after a video published to the web showed them tasering a student they had pinned to the ground who was not resisting arrest.
The video, taken during a charity cycling event called Tour de Tech Terrace shows Texas Tech student Hunter Temperton pinned to the ground by two officers. Despite Temperton not moving, at the 42 second mark an officer tasers him on the ground.
Naturally local police officials are claiming they did no wrong, saying that Temperton had not complied with instructions from the officers and was restrained using the taser compliant with local use guidelines before being properly arrested.
Witnesses told a local paper that even from a different view to the one shot by the camera, it was clear to them that Temperton was not resisting arrest, with one telling the Daily Toreador that “There was no need to Taser him. He was already on the ground.”
Temperton was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, evading arrest, failure to identify and public intoxication. The video showing the tasering as follows:
