Newly Single Hilary Duff Admits She Was Too ‘Young’ And ‘Immature’ For Marriage

Younger star Hilary Duff admits she was “too young” when she got married for the first time. The actress was the celebrity guest and star co-host on Friday episode’s of The Talk.

The 29-year-old admitted that she was too “immature” for marriage when the audience asked, “Looking back, do you think you were too young when you got married?”

“I do,” she responded. “I was 22 when I got married. I’m now divorced, I have a 4-year-old – I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.”

Duff explained that in her early 20s, she had “so much so young” which made her “feel really ready to get married,” reports People. Back in August 2010, Duff married Mike Comrie. The couple share a 4-year-old son, Luca. Comrie and Duff finalized their divorce in February of this year.

“However, I don’t think we were mature enough to stick it out,” Duff admitted.

While she admits she was too young to get married at 22, she does believe that it can work for those who choose to get married at a younger age. This comes after Duff’s previous comments on The Talk, when she admitted she felt “pigeonholed” by the entertainment industry after having her son. She addressed Jennifer Aniston’s recent interview about society thinking she’s “useless” if she didn’t go with society’s standards of having children after marriage.

Duff praised Aniston and called her a “beautiful role model, and a smart woman to have the courage to say these things in Hollywood,” before she opened up about her own struggles in the industry, reports People.

“I feel like I was judged for having a baby too soon, and getting married too soon and now, I’m pigeonholed for being a ‘mom,’ she said. “Lots of women in the industry that don’t have a child yet are judged.”

Despite Duff’s struggles with the industry, the actress has since achieved success on the TV Land show Younger, in which she plays the bubbly and sassy Kelsey Peters, opposite costar Sutton Foster. Duff told costar Nico Tortorella on his podcast, The Love Bomb, in early November that she doesn’t feel the need to get married again.

“I don’t feel the need to get married again. As much as I was ready and excited, you’re like, ‘Oh, next step. We get married.’ That is the traditional person that I’m talking about that’s inside of me or however I was raised,” she said. “I don’t feel the need. I got to have the experience and it was awesome. I guess if it mattered to someone else that much, I would consider it.”

“It just seems scarier than ever because of how much attention celebrities get because of their personal life now and how much focus is on that and how much one person can say one thing and how much impact it can have. It’s crazy.”

Just a month ago, Duff recently split from ex-boyfriend and personal trainer Jason Walsh. It was reported that the couple ended their relationship after just five months of dating.

“They weren’t on the same page,” an inside source told People. “He wants to move to New York, but her life is in L.A.”

The two just made their relationship Instagram official last month. Duff wasn’t too shy when it came to posting photos of the two kissing or sleeping in bed together. The couple also just enjoyed a romantic vacation in Hawaii just a few weeks ago. Duff did not mention her reported split from Walsh when she recently co-hosted on The Talk.

But on Friday, Dec. 16, she was spotted wearing a baseball cap emblazoned with Walsh’s logo from his gym, Rise Nation, according to the Daily Mail. Duff was all smiles when she enjoyed a day after shopping at Gucci in Beverly Hills. She accessorized her look with a black leather jacket, a gray T-shirt, black and gray Nike Power Speed Flash leggings, and black Nike sneakers. Duff even gave the paparazzi the peace sign when she was seen around town.
