Donald Trump’s ’60 Minutes’ Full Interview: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Helped Trump Win — Trump Family, Obamacare Pivot Featured [Videos]
The below video from CBS News, titled “Donald Trump shifts position on Obamacare in 60 Minutes interview,” has received nearly 500,000 views in about 24 hours or more. Uploaded to YouTube on November 11, the video is a part of President-elect Trump’s 60 Minutes full interview, scheduled to air Sunday, November 13. As noted by CBS, it is the first extended full interview Mr. Trump has given since becoming President-elect Trump.
Mr. Trump’s full 60 Minutes interview should also be available before long on the CBS website of full episodes.
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump spoke on 60 Minutes about the power of using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to draw followers and get Mr. Trump’s message out to the public.
President-elect Trump called social media “where it’s at” — and refused to agree that he would totally tone down his social media messages from some of the heated things Mr. Trump has tweeted in the past.
Instead, President-elect Trump credited his huge social media following with giving him a platform to refute any messages promoted by the mainstream media that he felt were incorrect.
Mr. Trump also spoke about Obamacare in the 60 Minutes interview, along with President-elect Trump’s previous promise to totally repeal President Obama’s healthcare law.
On 60 Minutes with Leslie Stahl, however, Mr. Trump seemed to pivot on that promise, while still claiming that he would not leave anyone uncovered via the Obamacare changes — not even for as short of a period as two days.
The 60 Minutes interview with Mr. Trump is already being satirized in the New Yorker article titled “Trump Confirms That He Just Googled Obamacare,” by Andy Borowitz, a man who writes plenty of satire about political topics.
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump promised that he would continue to leverage social media as he enters the White House.
Along with Mr. Trump showing up for Sunday’s 60 Minutes interview, which airs at 7 p.m. ET/PT, Melania Trump will appear as well — including Mr. Trump’s children.
Mr. Trump not only praised social media as a wonderful modern form of communication, President-elect Trump mentioned his 28 million followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, along with the effect that those followers had upon helping him win the presidency.
Mr. Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, spoke about President-elect Trump’s chief of staff appointment, reports CBS News, with Conway promising Mr. Trump would appoint one soon.
On 60 Minutes, Mr. Trump spoke of how restrained he would be with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as President Trump.
“It’s a great form of communication. Now do I say I’ll give it up entirely and throw out, that’s a tremendous form– I pick up– I’m picking up now, I think I picked up yesterday 100,000 people. I’m not saying I love it, but it does get the word out. When you give me a bad story or when you give me an inaccurate story or when somebody other than you and another– a network, or whatever, because of course, CBS would never do a thing like that right? I have a method of fighting back. That’s very tough–
“I’m going to be very restrained, if I use it at all, I’m going to be very restrained. I find it tremendous. It’s a modern form of communication. There should be nothing we should be ashamed of. It’s– it’s where it’s at. I do believe this, I really believe that– the fact that I have such power in terms of numbers with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, et cetera, I think it helped me win all of these races where they’re spending much more money than I spent. And I won. I think that social media has more power than the money they spent, and I think maybe to a certain extent, I proved that.”
