Motorola goes Android with Motorola Cliq
Trouble mobile phone maker Motorola has entered the Android smart phone space with the launch of the Motorola Cliq.
As well as being powered by Google’s Android platform, the Motorola Cliq offers a slide down keyboard, 3G/HSDPA and WiFi, 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera and full HTML browser.
The phone also comes with something called the “Moto Blur interface” that is said to sync all your pictures, e-mails, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace messages and displays them all in one screen. Moto Blur also updates and backs up your data, with the company claiming that your data will “always be safe.”
First reviews of the phone are positive, with Engadget noting that the phone feels faster than Android powered phones released by the likes of HTC.
It’s hard to get excited about a Motorola phone, and the firms recent history doesn’t bide well for the Cliq being successful. That said though, there’s some really interesting things happening on the Android platform, and decent hardware like the Cliq can only add to the forward momentum around Android powered phones. Who knows, maybe Motorola might actually have a winner.
