Obama Allegedly Hoping Debate Performance Will Usher Back Women Voters
President Barack Obama enters the second debate without the overwhelming support from women he previously enjoyed, according to an election poll released on Monday. Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, has made steady strides with female voters since the first time the pair of White House hopefuls met at the podium.
A USA Today-Gallup poll shows Romney and Obama in a virtual tie with likely women voters in battleground regions. The female voters in swing states figures mirror the findings of a Pew poll taken last week. Pew noted that President Obama lost his 18-point lead, placing him in an even heat with his GOP challenger, ABC News notes.
Unlike the days and weeks leading up to the first debate, the president has reportedly been firmly focused on preparing for Tuesday’s town hall style encounter with Romney. The Democratic campaign has profusely promised a decidedly more aggressive and engaged candidate during the second televised meeting between the two men vying for the chair behind the Resolute Desk.
Obama campaign spokeswoman, Jen Pasaki, had this to say about her boss’ anticipated performance:
“You should expect that he’s going to be firm but respectful in correcting the record and the times we expect Mitt Romney will hide from and distort his own policies. He’s energized and I expect he will also be making a passionate case.”
An ABC News source noted that the president will bring up his opponent’s infamous 47 percent comment. Independent voters who value personal responsibility, could be turned off, if the president completely dismisses the notion that some Americans do expect the government to take care of their basic survival needs.
