NFL Trade Rumors: Johnny Manziel, Colin Kaepernick On Jets Radar? Eagles Eyeing Torrey Smith, Alshon Jeffery?
NFL trade rumors surrounding Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick have been floating around for weeks now. How about adding Johnny Manziel to that list? With New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith suffering a torn ACL in last Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the possible NFL trade rumors are heating up in the Big Apple.
Could the Jets try to work a deal that may bring Manziel, Cutler, or Kaepernick over to replace Geno Smith?
According to Sportsrageous.com, the Jets may soon be shopping for another quarterback. With Smith going down for the season with a torn ACL and Ryan Fitzpatrick not performing like he did in 2015, the New York offense needs a boost. Right now, the only other quarterbacks on the Jets roster are Bryce Petty and rookie Christian Hackenberg.
The news of Geno Smith’s injury hit coach Todd Bowles hard, however, he knows there is a lot of games left and that his team needs to refocus. However, the question remains: Does refocusing mean dealing for another QB?
“When you hear [the news], it’s tough luck for the kid and you go from there,” Jets head coach Bowles stated via ESPN. “Fitz finished the game up, and we’ll go on from there with Fitz.”
Fitzpatrick has performed well since taking over as the starter, but it may be time for the Jets to start looking for other options, as his inconsistent play has become a big factor in the Jets lackluster offense in 2016. Could Manziel or Kaepernick, both of whom come with a lot of baggage, be a good fit in New York?
Other NFL trade rumors floating around the internet world include San Francisco’s Torrey Smith and the Bears Alshon Jeffery – two very good receivers on two very bad teams.
With Nov. 1 trade deadline one week from Tuesday, 49ers now open to trading WR Torrey Smith, per sources. Multiple teams have shown interest

Metro reported that several sources, including Pro Football Talk and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that the Philadelphia Eagles began talks with the 49ers to trade for Torrey Smith. The 4-2 Eagles are very much alive in the race for the NFC East crown, although they haven’t been getting much production from wideouts Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor. Adding Smith could make this already dangerous Eagles team a tough squad to beat in December.
Another wideout who could be on the Eagles early holiday wish list is Alshon Jeffery. The Bears have been simply dreadful this season and may be looking to move Jeffery, who has been a more than capable receiver in his career.
He is still young (26-years-old), and at six-foot-three, he commands attention on the field. This kid could really become a breakout star if he had a good quarterback to work with. Jeffery has had seasons where he has racked up 1,000 yards or more and still has plenty left in the tank. Don’t be surprised if a deal to move Jeffery gets done before the November 1 trade deadline. The only problem may be what the Bears want in return, which surely would be a first or second round pick.
Another Bear that is rumored to be on the trading block is Jay Cutler.
Cutler is expected to make his return to the Bears lineup this Sunday when Chicago take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night football. He has missed the last six weeks with a thumb injury. While there are NFL trade rumors of Cutler possibly being dealt to the Jets, as of now, he is happy just to be back on the field playing.
“The whole not-speaking thing I was fine with,” Cutler said. “The not-playing thing was the difficult part because it’s out of your control. A lot of the game is out of your control. [Backup] Brian [Hoyer] did a good job, but I wanted to be out there.”
With nine weeks left, it will be interesting to see if the Bears hold on to Cutler or try to deal the veteran quarterback and being to plan for the future. Stay tuned.
