Selena Gomez Croons Love Issues In ‘Trust Nobody’: Is New Song About Justin Bieber Romance?

Selena Gomez has had a year filled with highs (she slayed during her Revival Tour, delighting fans with her charm and singing skills) and lows (she struggled with symptoms related to her ongoing battle with lupus, admitting to anxiety and depression so severe that she cancelled the rest of her tour). Add in an Instagram battle with her former boyfriend, Justin Bieber, an unexpected (and probably unwanted) publicity boost from allegations that she was somehow involved in Brad Pitt’s and Angelina Jolie’s messy divorce drama, as the Inquisitr reported, and 2016 will go down in her timeline as distinctly memorable.

Now Gomez has come out of nowhere with a new song, “Trust Nobody,” the first since announcing that she was taking time off to cope with her health, and the lyrics are causing some to question whether she’s revealing how she feels about her on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Justin.

The tune just got released from Norwegian producer Cashmere Cat, and in addition to Selena, it also features hip-hop artist Tory Lanez, reported iHeart Radio.

“Trust Nobody,” which was also produced by Benny Blanco and Frank Dukes, stars Gomez crooning some very sexy lyrics about the body, and Tory supports her by contemplating her comments about relationships.

Selena recites sensual lyrics in the track, also produced by Benny Blanco and Frank Dukes. “Trust Nobody” is from Cashmere Cat’s upcoming album Wild Love, scheduled to drop in 2016 from Mad Love/Interscope Records. But while Wild Love has a definite timeline, Selena’s follow-up album to Revival, her hit record, remains in question.

Gomez told her fans in June that she was “very close” to completing her next album, then subsequently caused concern when she shared that she was feeling “extremely unauthentic, unconnected” to her music and herself. That statement was followed by her August announcement that she was canceling the rest of her Revival Tour to focus on symptoms of lupus, including depression, panic attacks, and anxiety.

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,” explained Selena. “I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best.”

Now the new song, surprising everyone, offers insights into her feelings about keeping secrets and trust issues. There’s also a compliment for Gomez from her hip-hop artist co-star.

“And you got a body like Selena in them jeans,” croons Lanez during the sexy song.

As for the possibility that this song tells the story of Gomez and Bieber, she is credited as one of the co-writers, along with Starrah, Cashmere Cat, and Tory. Starrah tweeted out the credits.

The history of Justin and the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer winds back to the start of their music careers. Even though the two had an epic war of words on Instagram, with Selena posting criticism of Bieber regarding his anger toward fans about their criticism to his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie, Justin and his pop music princess still have feelings for each other, insiders told Page Six soon after their Instagram war in August.

“He was her first love, and he still has a major hold on her. If he texts her, her world stops.”

In addition, one of the sources revealed that despite that social media battle, Justin has not yet recovered from his breakup with Gomez.

“They came up in this business together as sweethearts — those feelings will never go away,” added the insider.

However, Selena reportedly is trying to take steps to protect herself from any potential encounters with Bieber by changing her phone number, reported the Daily Mail, which cited a source who revealed that Gomez has cut off Justin “two or three times before.”

In addition, as to the possibility that “Trust Nobody” might be about her relationship with Bieber, this isn’t the first time that speculation has swirled that she wrote a song about Justin. “Same Old Love,” in which Selena shared her feelings about a toxic romance, was thought to be about Bieber, as well as “Good For You” and “Can’t Keep My Hands To Myself.”

And when it comes to the trust issues about which Gomez croons in her new song, Bieber also revealed he has had his own battle with trusting others. In an interview earlier this year, Justin admitted that he had to “reassess” which people to trust, reported E News.

“People take advantage of vulnerability,” pointed out Bieber. “After a while I started putting up walls and boundaries and for a while I shut everybody out.”

But Justin also feels that as a “human,” he’s allowed to make mistakes.

“I’m human I’m still going to make mistakes,” added Bieber. “I think that’s what’s cool about this growth is people can see it. I’ve made a transition and been consistent.”
