Vegan Cheese Has Been Renamed Gary: Facebook Rant Sends Social Media In An Uproar
A woman’s Facebook rant has resulted in the vegan community renaming their non-dairy cheese products Gary.
The woman, whose name has been removed to protect her online safety, posted a rant on Facebook in response to Sainsbury referring to their vegan coconut cheese as actual cheese. Her rant attacked Sainsbury and anyone that enjoys the vegan cheese products, especially the coconut cheese.
“CHEESE IS NOT MADE WITH COCONUTS. Call it Gary or something don’t call it Cheese because IT’S NOT CHEESE!!!!!!”
Despite the poor grammar and punctuation, the woman’s rant goes on to explain the origins of cheese and how it is not a vegan product, resulting in foul language being directed toward Sainsbury and their attempt to create cheese out of coconuts, according to Metro.
“Around 4000 yeas ago people have started to breed animals and process their milk. That’s when cheese was born. So Sainsburys can F off.”

The unidentified woman uninvited all vegan cheese connoisseurs to her wine and cheese parties and stated that she feels sorry for anyone that is allergic to cheese.
Rather than defend vegan cheese or create an uproar of hatred toward the woman, vegans worldwide chose to accept her suggestion and simply rename all vegan cheese Gary.
“We interrupt this broadcast to inform you that vegan cheese is now called ‘GARY’.”
In fact, according to the Huffington Post, there is now a Change.org petition to rename all vegan cheese, Gary.
Sainsbury joined in the fun and posted a simple tweet to their Twitter page, letting everyone know that they aren’t taking the responses personally.
“Thanks to customer feedback, we’re excited to introduce our new range of #Gary”

The complaint about vegan cheese seems to have stemmed from the long tradition of hard work surrounding the fine craft of cheese making and how it has become a sacred process over time. Dismissing its historical processes and creating a new line of cheese from exotic fruits, such as coconuts, was enough to set the woman off.
The response from the internet was low key, considering many similar rants result in the original poster being shredded by the respondents. The original poster is often being blocked by the people that disagree, and they are cast out of the group that is being attacked. However, the vegan community chose to laugh it off and join in the fun, resulting in an open discussion regarding vegan foods and how they are created.
Regardless of how cheese is made, some claim vegan cheese is healthier than the dairy counterpart and is more earth-friendly as well. Memes have been posted that claim cheese is only “one step away from Vaseline,” although chemical science warns otherwise.
Whether cheese or Gary is being served, it seems that gathering the opposing sides together over a glass of vintage wine would be the perfect opportunity to discuss the issue and come to a peaceful conclusion. Then, we could decide once and for all that we should all just agree to disagree and end the night with a handshake and a smile.

The woman behind the epic Facebook vegan cheese rant was overwhelmed by the response she received and chose to apologize for being disrespectful to the vegan community. In addition, she stated that she would be willing to sample some of their Gary and see if all the fuss is worthwhile.
Now that vegan cheese has been renamed Gary, could we move towards renaming vegan bacon “Plankton”?
