‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3: Jimmy And Mike’s Evolution, Things To Get Excited About

With two seasons of Better Call Saul we have seen Jimmy McGill show signs of his future self. However, Breaking Bad fans are still waiting for Jimmy to become Saul Goodman.

Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy, thinks that we will see the transition to Saul Goodman pretty soon. Perhaps in Better Call Saul Season 3? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Odenkirk spoke about the possibility of Jimmy McGill becoming Saul – after all the series is called Better Call Saul. When asked if we will see the transformation in Better Call Saul Season 3, Odenkirk replied with the following.

“Well, that you’d have to ask Vince and Peter for a definitive answer, but I do think we’re close.”

In the last season, we saw Jimmy put himself in a bad situation by coming clean to his brother Chuck, who recorded the confession. In case you forgot, Jimmy admitted to forging the Mesa Verde files, which caused Chuck to question his sanity.

Chuck has the power to potentially ruin Jimmy McGill’s career in law and his relationship with Kim. Perhaps this is why Jimmy has to use an alias like Saul Goodman? In Better Call Saul Season 3, we could see a pivotal moment in Jimmy’s evolution.

Bob Odenkirk also elaborated on the reasons Jimmy becomes Saul in his EW interview.

“You can imagine numerous reasons, one probably being I could embarrass the hell of out my brother…I think people sometimes feel like it’s going to take forever at this pace, and I just don’t think that’s true. It’s more a matter of building up the building blocks and then they all fall down in one fell swoop.”

In Breaking Bad we know that Jimmy and Mike work much more closely together and in Better Call Saul Season 3, you can expect to see them in a lot more scenes together as Mike plays a pivotal role in Jimmy’s transformation.

One of the showrunners, Vince Gilligan, offered fans hope about more of Jimmy and Mike in an interview with Hitflix. The writer discussed the possibility of more interactions between the two characters in Better Call Saul Season 3.

“Having said that, we are always very happy when these two worlds collide, and we will continue to look for moments to make that happen. Maybe there will be more of them in Season 3. No promises, but you can be sure that these two will be working together, because when we saw them on Breaking Bad, Mike was Saul’s private investigator. We know the Titanic’s going to hit the iceberg eventually. We just don’t know where.”

With the Gus Fring teaser, many fans expect the notorious drug lord to make an appearance in Better Call Saul Season 3. However, you must remember Gus Fring is very private and goes to great length to conceal his illegal activity.

It is likely that Gus Fring will make an appearance in Better Call Saul Season 3, but don’t expect to see much of him. Fring is likely to conduct his business through surrogates and will stay true to the character we saw in Breaking Bad.

Speaking of Breaking Bad, we may get more cameos. Marie Schrader (Hank’s wife) was discussed as a potential cameo in a scene where Chuck was getting a cat scan, but the idea was considered too distracting.

In an interview with EW, Gilligan admitted that he would like to put many Breaking Bad cameos in Better Call Saul.

“We’d love to see all of them, selfishly speaking,” Gilligan said to Entertainment Weekly. “The problem for us is to be self-disciplined enough not to just throw them all willy-nilly into every single episode.”

Let’s hope he gives into the temptation and delivers some nostalgic cameos in Better Call Saul Season 3.

With an early renewal from AMC, Better Call Saul will likely return in February 2017 with 10 episodes.
