Michael Jackson Songs Inspires Guy To Moonwalk Across Europe In iPhone Video — It’s A Thriller!

Michael Jackson songs have long given fans inspiration for many a thing, but for Travis DeRose, it was the old Moonwalker movie video that gave an idea for a unique YouTube. Earlier in 2016, DeRose spent a few months on a two-month long trip to Europe. DeRose and his friends visited 13 countries, saw 22 cities, and rode 21 trains — while making sure to moonwalk along the way.

Many famous European landmarks and scenic vista were given the Michael Jackson moonwalk treatment as DeRose glided backwards right on by. With most of the European continent represented (Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and many more), the “Guy Moonwalks Across Europe” video was an ingenious way to capture such an extensive trip, making the idea of sitting through another typical iPhoto slideshow seem as antiquated as some of the ruins DeRose slides in front of.

DeRose says he learned to moonwalk from watching Michael Jackson songs on YouTube. He said he came up with the idea while on a previous trip to Ireland.

“It started on a previous trip to Ireland when I was getting my photo taken in front of a castle,” DeRose explained. “Instead of just standing there looking awkward, I started moonwalking and it actually turned out pretty cool. So when I started this big Europe trip I started moonwalking every place we went.”

The young man “sometimes” felt it was “weird” moonwalking across all these famous places in Europe.

“I mean look at the video, I was in some pretty crowded places doing this,” he said. “One time a guy selling selfie sticks started moonwalking with me but I’m pretty sure he was just trying to get me to buy one. I think you can see him in the video.”

So, at this point, you are probably wondering how DeRose pulled off his video to the beat of Michael Jackson songs.

“I used my iPhone for the whole thing,” DeRose said. “My buddy, who was on the trip with me, took a shot of me from the exact same distance away every time. Then I used the iMovie app and mashed them all together in one second clips.”
