NBA Rumors: Washington Wizards Sending John Wall To The Detroit Pistons
The Washington Wizards may be close to trading away their best player to the Detroit Pistons. If you believe any of the NBA rumors that is. Wizards’ All-Star point guard John Wall could be headed to the Pistons if any of the NBA trade rumors are true.
According to the website Headlines and Global News, John Wall to the Pistons is a possibility.
There are a couple of trade scenarios that could work between the Wizards and Pistons. And there are plenty of reasons why the Wizards should trade Wall.
If not to the Detroit Pistons, the Washington Wizards can find a couple of suitors for Wall. Every option for the Wizards will be explored.
Because his overall fit with shooting guard Bradley Beal has been a struggle, Wall could use the change of scenery. If you are wondering why the Washington Wizards would trade John Wall now, look no further than the ginormous contract the team gave Beal in the offseason.
The Wizards conceivably made Beal their top guy with a tune of a five-year deal. According to the Washington Post, the Wizards rewarded Beal with $128 million. That is more than anyone expected the Wizards to give a player who has never averaged more than 18 points a game in his career. Bradley Beal’s contract, coupled with John Wall’s current injury status, is another reason to believe that a passing of the guard is taking place with the Wizards.
Wall had two knee surgeries in the offseason. Scott Brooks, new Wizards head coach, does not have a timeframe (courtesy of CBS Sports) for his guard’s return.
“I don’t like to put a timetable [on it] because if he doesn’t meet it [then] we’re saying, ‘Oh, he’s still hurt. He’s improving. His body looks great [but] his conditioning is going to be behind.”
When Wall returns he may find out that the Wizards are no longer his team.
Trading John Wall was not a thought just as recently as two years ago. The Wizards’ front office saw the Wall and Beal backcourt as one of the best in the NBA. What changed that idea was the emergence of the Golden State Warriors duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. After watching the Warriors get to the NBA Finals in two consecutive seasons with their guards, the Wizards, as well as the rest of the league, realize the symmetry must be on point.
At times Wall and Beal had chemistry issues.
Wall is a ball-dominating guard, while Beal is more of a shooter. Much of their lack of chemistry can be blamed on injuries. The Wizards making a trade would break things up, perhaps a little prematurely.
Coach Brooks has yet to see what Wall and Beal can do in his system together. But according to NBC Sports, Brooks is not worried about their on-court chemistry. Wall will return to the Wizards’ lineup at some point. Once that happens, a better assessment can be made about the overall fit. It would be irresponsible for the Wizards to make a trade until they see what is what. That will not stop the NBA rumors from circulating.
Of the NBA rumors that have come out regarding the Wizards trading John Wall, a scenario with the Pistons have come up.
NBC Sports shot down one of the most prominent NBA rumors which had the Wizards sending Wall and Markieff Morris to the Pistons in a four-team trade. The other big names that would have changed teams were the Pistons’ Reggie Jackson, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor, and Brandon Knight from the Phoenix Suns.
This trade had a lot of players changing addresses, but it could be dumbed down to just the Wizards and Pistons.
A Washington Wizards trade with the Detroit Pistons would work like this — the Wizards would send John Wall and Markieff Morris to the Pistons. The Pistons would send Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris to the Wizards.
This is an even trade involving players who are questionable fits with their respective teams.
Wall and Morris might be better off with the Pistons than the Wizards. And vice versa with Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris playing in Washington. It is too soon for the Wizards to trade John Wall, but eventually they must split up their backcourt.
If the Washington Wizards wind up considering trading John Wall, the Pistons will be one of the teams interested. In fact, the Wizards will be taking calls from several teams about Wall.
The one team that may come calling is the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs need to get a younger point guard and John Wall is an ideal candidate. If the Wizards do trade John Wall and cannot complete a deal with the Pistons, the Spurs is the most interesting team.
Expect nothing to happen with the Washington Wizards trading John Wall anytime soon. Again, it would be premature to trade him. Once Wall returns from his knee surgery and has a chance to work under coach Scott Brooks, the Wizards will have a better understanding of what to do with him.
