Will Sara Ramirez Bring Back Callie Torres In Season 13 Of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Could Sara Ramirez bring back her fan-favorite character Callie Torres in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy?

Ever since Sara said farewell to the ABC medical drama in Season 12, viewers have been lobbying for the star to return, but could Callie actually be coming back to the show sooner rather than later?

Grey’s Anatomy fans were quick to speculate on social media that Sara could potentially return to the drama as Callie in Season 13, which is set to premiere on September 22, pointing out that Torres was not killed off, leaving the door open for the actress to return.

“Let’s all remember that Dr. Callie Torres didn’t die and that maybe someday she might come back to Grey’s!” Grey’s Anatomy fan @teamsararamirez tweeted out of a potential return, while @ArizonaAlexTEAM added, “Callie should come back [with] Arizona! And watch the super magic smile everyday together #Calzona.”

“Even if Sara never comes back to grey’s full time,” Grey’s Anatomy fan @tbhramirez added, “I am praying she comes back for one episode to properly wrap up Callie’s storyline.”

Grey’s Anatomy fans first began to speculate that Callie could return to the drama at some point after the character waved bye bye to Grey Sloan Memorial hospital during Season 12 of the popular ABC show this past May, as Sara seemingly hinted that her leaving was more of a break than a permanent departure.

Announcing that the she would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy on Twitter following the Season 12 finale, Sara told fans that she was “taking a break” from the medical drama “for now” and also revealed that she was “looking forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family,” suggesting she wasn’t finished working with executive producer Shonda Rhimes just yet.

Shonda also appeared to suggest that Ramirez would eventually return to the series earlier this year, continually referring to Sara’s Grey’s Anatomy departure as a break in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, in which Rhimes also confirmed that having Callie leave was not part of her plan.

“This one was interesting. It was different because it wasn’t a big, planned thing,” Rhonda said of losing Sara at the time, telling reporters that she actually “had a different plan going” for Callie.

“Sara came and said, ‘I really need to take this break,'” Shonda continued of how Ramirez told her that she was ready to leave, once again referring to Ramirez leaving as being a break.

“[Ramirez] said she wanted to take this break and we were able to give it to her,” the Grey’s Anatomy executive producer continued, “because I love the woman and I want to do everything for her. It all worked out in that sense.”

But as the speculation around Callie Torres’s return to Grey Sloan Memorial hospital continues to swirl amid reports that her departure is just a break, Ramirez now appears to be making it pretty clear that she has no plans to bring back Callie and return to Grey’s Anatomy just yet.

Speaking out about her time on the show in a recent interview with Parade, Ramirez actually described leaving Grey’s Anatomy as being “the best decision” she’s ever made.

“It was a very conscious decision, a choice that I made, and it was really supported by my colleagues and my boss,” Ramirez said of her decision to leave the show and leave Dr. Callie Torres behind.

“When you’re really clear about the decisions you’re making and why you’re making them, it’s actually rather empowering,” the Grey’s Anatomy actress continued, “and I continue to wish them all well and they know it, so it’s a good thing.”

Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 is set to debut on ABC on September 22.
