WWE News: New ‘Clash Of Champions 2016’ Title Matches Announced
In the latest WWE news, several new WWE Clash of Champions 2016 matches were announced during the latest episode of Raw. Monday night’s show was the final episode before the upcoming pay-per-view on Sunday night. It brought with it a few interesting twists and turns that came about during the night and led to new matches being created. Both of them will be over championships that are held by members of the Raw roster. Could either match end up producing a brand new champion at the conclusion of Sunday’s event?
According to Wrestling Inc. in their recap of Monday’s Raw, one of the matches will be the WWE Women’s Championship bout. While this match had originally been announced as Sasha Banks vs. current champion Charlotte for Sunday, it was changed. There was a backstage segment where Charlotte’s protege Dana Brooke tried to convince Raw General Manager Mick Foley that a new No. 1 contender needed to be decided. That backfired on Dana and Charlotte, leading Foley to decide instead to put Bayley into Sunday’s championship match. It will now become a Triple Threat for the WWE Women’s title featuring Sasha vs. Bayley vs. Charlotte for the title.

That particular change provides some interesting possibilities. Some fans are already speculating that Sasha may end up turning heel on her good friend Bayley, should Bayley win the title on Sunday. Sasha previously held the title for about a month or so, until she decided to take some time off. She dropped the title to Charlotte at SummerSlam 2016, surprising fans. They expected her to return and take the title back, but with Bayley now in the match, could WWE give their newest women’s star a big push?
Later in the show, it was time to meet four of the WWE Cruiserweights. These wrestlers are the newest attraction on Raw. Once again, GM Mick Foley was around as he hyped up the division and introduced Gran Metalik, Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, and Brian Kendrick. Foley announced the four superstars would compete in a Fatal Four-Way match, right then. The winner of that match would get to go on to face Cruiserweight Champion T.J. Perkins at Sunday’s pay-per-view.
The match was one of the highlights of the night for fans watching in person or on television at home. The cruiserweights are new to the roster but will certainly provide some excitement on Monday nights. It ended up coming down to Brian Kendrick being able to put his submission move on Cedric Alexander, forcing him to tap out. That puts Kendrick into the No. 1 contender’s spot in the division and gives him a spotlight match at Clash of Champions.
According to Cageside Seats, Kendrick showed a mean streak during the match with some brutal offense, doing what it took to win. That seems to set him up in a heel role to take on the face Perkins.

WWE seems to be making the right moves for the Raw show right now, as they work with what they have. One of the biggest differences between Raw and Smackdown right now may be that Raw is using much newer talents and integrating them into the overall landscape. They include recent call-up Bayley and the Cruiserweights. Now they’ll all be a part of championships matches at Sunday’s show, providing some additional intrigue.
As for which of these stars, Kendrick or Bayley, has the best chance of leaving with a championship, it would see the women’s match could go any way. Perkins just recently captured the Cruiserweight Championship and it would be extremely surprising to see him drop the belt this fast. WWE is looking to establish the division and will need to make the belt respectable.
The women’s title has been respectable, as Charlotte held onto it for quite a while before Sasha knocked her off the perch. WWE may look to push Bayley or give Sasha a second reign, so it should be interesting to see who walks out as champ Sunday.
WWE fans, what do you think of these two new matches that were placed on the Clash of Champions card? Will Brian Kendrick or Bayley leave the pay-per-view as a new champion after their match?
