MTV Lied? Taylor Swift A No-Show At This Year’s VMAs [Report]
Last year, Taylor Swift brought her model squad and opened the Video Music Awards with rapper Nicki Minaj. Just don’t expect this year’s MTV VMAs to become the Taylor Swift awards ceremony.
According to reports, Taylor Swift, 26, is not attending this year’s VMAs. The singer will have to watch the event at home. Sources close to the 2016 MTV VMAs and Swift confirmed to the Mirror Celeb that Swift was never even invited to this year’s ceremony. That’s because Swift is not nominated for any awards this time around.
So, why else is Taylor Swift a no-show at this year’s VMAs? Is it because of Beyoncé, who’s been confirmed to perform? According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, there is speculation that Swift is not allowed to attend the 2016 MTV VMAs because Beyoncé used her power and influence to ban the singer-songwriter from the awards ceremony.

However, sources close to Swift revealed that the chart-topping pop star is not scheduled to attend this year. People reported that Swift confirmed this new herself. Swift probably wants to avoid an awkward run-in with both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. TMZ reported that Kim is a presenter at this year’s VMAs, and Kanye will be performing his controversial new song. Kendall Jenner teased on social media that Kanye brought his infamous waxed figurines to the stage.
It was previously assumed that Swift would attend the VMAs because she’s one of the hottest topics in entertainment and pop culture, even though she’s not making any music at the time. And in an interview with Megan Freidman for Cosmopolitan, MTV music and talent vice president Gina Esposito revealed that they often receive requests from those who want to sit next to Swift.
“She has so many good friend, and it was hard to figure out the ‘Taylor’ of it all [in the past years], because so many people were requesting to sit by her and sit with her,” Esposito said. “She’s often really requested.”
It’s not just the members of Swift’s squad that have celebrities fighting to be seated with her. Esposito also mentioned that the seating charts for the awards shows are dependent upon making sure the right celebrities are in front of the cameras to capture their reactions. That very report made Swift’s fans believe that she was going to attend this year’s VMAs.

In addition, sources said that Kanye West may decide to make up with Taylor Swift at the 2016 MTV VMAs. Sources told the outlet that Kanye “will have free reign over the stage,” and that “show producers are expecting something big…they just have no idea what will it be.” Of course, anything could happen when Kanye performs his new song.
An insider added that Kanye has four minutes “to do with as he pleases. He can rap, sing, dance, or even just stay silent… [and] show producers are totally clueless which door he’ll pick.” All eyes will be on him to see if he throws shade at Swift.
Kanye is also nominated for both Video Of The Year and Best Male Video for “Famous,” so it’s likely that Taylor Swift’s name will come up. How could you not address the one person that is not in the room? Kanye will no doubt try to mention the singer’s name either in his performance or his acceptance speech, if he wins.
