Amber Heard Furious Over Johnny Depp’s Charity Donations

Just when it seemed Johnny Depp and Amber Heard could go their separate ways, a new wrinkle in their divorce settlement stirs up fresh conflict. It all stems from Amber’s claim that she intended to donate 100 percent of her divorce settlement to charity, a pledge that seemed questionable, considering the great lengths she went to obtain that settlement in the first place. Doubt has continuously been cast on Amber’s claims of abuse through statements made by sources close to the couple, so the announcement that Heard planned to donate everything to charity went a long way toward legitimizing her allegations.

Amber Heard Objects To Johnny Depp Donating The Money Directly To Charity

Once Johnny and Amber reached a settlement agreement, Ms. Heard immediately vowed to donate the entire $7 million amount to two charities: the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) for domestic violence and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. As the BBC suggests, the move shocked millions of people and may have even swayed much negative public opinion about her. After all, is there anything better than giving to mistreated women and children?

Johnny Depp doesn’t think so. That’s why he saved his ex-wife the headache of dealing with the red tape by donating her divorce award directly to the charities in her name. Instead of a nice thank you note, Amber sent her lawyers back after Johnny.

“Amber Heard appreciates Johnny Depp’s novel interest in supporting two of her favourite charities… This is great and unexpected news,” said a spokeswoman for Heard.

The other shoe dropped shortly after that, when Amber demanded double the amount.

“However, if Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honour the full amount by donating $14m to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7m payment obligation to Amber.”

The response from Amber’s representatives didn’t stop there. It was also demanded that Depp make the aforementioned donations immediately, as opposed to making periodic payments.

Johnny Deep “Deeply Respects” Amber Heard’s Generosity

Representatives for Johnny Depp have issued a statement, following the finalization of the divorce settlement, that Depp had submitted the first payment to the charities designated by Heard in her pledge to give the money to the worthy causes. Us Weekly shares the news that Depp plans to continue submitting the monies on Heard’s behalf, until the full $7 million has been equally divided between the ACLU and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

“Ms. Heard’s generosity in giving to these wonderful causes is deeply respected,” a representative said on behalf of Johnny Depp.

Immediately following the news that their divorce had been settled, Depp and Heard released a joint statement.

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”

At that time, Amber released a separate statement in which she declares that financial gain never played any part in the divorce proceedings on her behalf. It was at that time that she vowed to donate all of the funds to the two charities. She added that she was donating everything to help those who were unable to help themselves.

Through her representatives, Amber is now attempting to compel Johnny to pay twice the agreed upon amount, asserting that half of the money would go to taxes.

“Anything less would be a transparent attempt by Johnny’s counsel, Laura Wasser and Patti Glaser, to reduce their client’s true payment by half under the guise of newfound concern for charities that he has never previously supported.”
