Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro Calls Lady Gaga A ‘Drug-Using Slut’

Staten Island’s borough president James Molinaro decided to take pop singer Lady Gaga’s public image up to task and turn it into a personal lesson yesterday for Staten Island’s Youth Substance Abuse Program.

At one point, Molinaro stood against the billboard featuring pictures of the scantily clad singer that looked like it was made in an arts and crafts class while bellowing that Gaga “is a drug-using slut.”

Yesterday at the launch event, it seemed as though James Molinaro pent up all of his feelings on drug abuse and found the perfect target to reprimand. Continuing his criticism of Lady Gaga, Molinaro said:

“Also, we have to understand that there’s a tremendous influence with our youth, which I didn’t have as a youth. And there’s the influence right there. Stop glorifying the drug use. There’s Gaga. Here’s this … this … I would call her a slut. This slut is influencing many, many children … and it’s right to do. It’s fine, it’s part of it. My niece has two daughters, 12 and 14, [and] they love this woman. Why? Why.”

Well, tell us how you really feel, James Molinaro. The Staten Island borough president isn’t a stranger to substance abuse problems. In 2006, his own son, Steven Molinaro, who had an on-going struggle with substance abuse, was found dead after overdosing on drugs. Before his death, he had multiple run ins with the law including being involved in the brutal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy.

Of course, the criticism of Gaga’s alleged drug abuse comes right after the singer was photographed smoking a joint in Amsterdam. Do you think Monlinaro’s comments were warranted?
