‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Premiere Date: When Do The Cast Return For The New Season?
Season 13 of ABC’s hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is set to return for its thirteenth season next month, but which cast members are coming back for the new season and what does writer Shonda Rhimes have in store for them? Well, fans of the show won’t have to wait all that long to find out.
According to the Parent Herald, the new season of Grey’s Anatomy is set to premiere on September 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC. With that in mind, there’s just over a month until Grey’s Anatomy returns for another 24 episode run. However, the future of the series still remains pretty unclear following the events of Grey’s Anatomy‘s Season 12 finale. That being said, several cast members have promised that the Season 13 premiere will answer some of those all important questions ahead of another exciting season.

Debbie Allen, best known for producing and directing the show, as well as starring as Catherine Jackson on Grey’s Anatomy, has already said the first episode of the new season will be titled “Undo.” That titling is likely because the Season 13 premiere is set to deal with repercussions of the last season. At the same time, Allen promised that the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy would be a really good season for fans of the show, which is a difficult statement to live up to given the show’s track record.
Of course, the big question on everyone’s lips surrounds exactly which cast members will return for the new season. Following the explosive events of that Season 12 finale, the future of a number of characters on the show are in doubt.
According to the Christian Times, most of the show’s main cast are set to return for the thirteenth season. That’s because most of the main cast either renewed their contracts after the show’s tenth or eleventh season, covering them for a number of seasons into the future. However, exactly how long those contracts will last remains to be seen. Grey’s Anatomy is now in somewhat uncharted territory, with very few dramas making it into the thirteenth season, but it’s an impressive feat that Grey’s Anatomy has managed to achieve.

Of course, fans of Shonda Rhimes will know that Grey’s Anatomy isn’t the only show returning from the producer on September 22. On the same day, Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder will follow Grey’s Anatomy on ABC. In fact, the network is home to a number of TV dramas from Rhimes, further including Scandal and more recently, The Catch. ABC has seen a good deal of success with Rhimes’ shows, which could go some way in explaining the longevity of Grey’s Anatomy and even political drama Scandal.

Whilst Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder have been successful in their own right, Grey’s Anatomy is Rhimes’ leading show right now. First airing in 2005, the medical drama has become one of the longest running dramas on television, largely thanks to its fantastic writing on the part of Rhimes.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 will return to ABC on September 22 at 8 p.m. as part of the network’s “Thank God It’s Thursday” lineup, which features two of Shonda Rhimes’ TV dramas, including How to Get Away with Murder. That line-up will receive a further boost when Rhimes’ incredibly popular political drama Scandal returns for its sixth season next year and the most recent addition, The Catch, returns in the near future.
