Cleveland Browns Should Try To Trade For San Diego Chargers’ DE Joey Bosa

The San Diego Chargers selected Ohio State star defensive end Joey Bosa with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. It was a move that surprised a lot of the NFL. Bosa was considered one of the top defensive playmakers in the entire draft class, and San Diego needed help on that side of the football.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the Chargers and Bosa are having major issues, and the two sides have yet to come to an agreement on a new contract. Bosa’s mom made it clear on Facebook that she wished her son would have “pulled an Eli Manning” on draft night. Her comment was found by the SD Bolt Report.

Bosa may not end up signing with the Chargers and could still force his way out of San Diego. If the Chargers don’t believe they can get a deal done, they could look to deal him to another team interested in acquiring the star potential that he possesses.

One team that should look to make an aggressive play to acquire Bosa is the Cleveland Browns.

Last season at Ohio State, Bosa ended up recording 51 total tackles to go along with 5.0 sacks and an interception. He also broke up four passes and forced a fumble.

At 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, Bosa has the body to become a nightmare for opposing offensive lines. He has top-notch speed, strength, and a work ethic to grow his game in a big way. Bosa will need to let his NFL coaching staff mold him as a player, and if he does that, the sky is the limit.

Cleveland would be a perfect landing spot for Bosa and something of a homecoming. He would be returning to the state where he played college football, and he already has a large fan base. Bosa would also be joining an up-and-coming team looking to make themselves relevant in the playoff race again.

Hue Jackson took over the Browns’ head coaching position this past offseason, and he is optimistic about his chances to turn the franchise around. Robert Griffin III was signed to be the starting quarterback and has done enough to earn that title. Adding as many talented pieces as possible is the recipe for success.

If Bosa was acquired by the Browns, he would be thrown into an immediate role and would become one of the cornerstones of the entire defense. Cleveland could use more playmaking and pass rushing, which is exactly what Bosa brings to the field each and every game.

There is no telling what the Chargers would want in return from the Browns. John Buhler of FanSided opined that San Diego could simply ask for a first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. If that is indeed the case, Cleveland could consider bringing in a known talent instead of waiting to see what pick they end up with next offseason.

Needless to say, the drama in the Bosa situation has set the stage for what could be an early end to Bosa’s tenure with the Chargers. San Diego has not been patient with this kind of thing in the past, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them cut ties quickly with the talented rookie defensive end.

Expect to hear a lot more news come out about the Bosa situation in the coming days. It certainly doesn’t look like it is going to be easy for the two sides to work something out at this point in time.

Cleveland should certainly place a phone call to the Chargers and see if there is a way to acquire Bosa.
