Vince McMahon Reportedly Interested In Bringing Back John Morrison
Over the last couple of months, we’ve heard that several former WWE stars could be making a return to the company to help add depth to both the Raw and SmackDown rosters. So far, we’ve seen the return of Rhyno to SmackDown and Jinder Mahal to Raw. It was also announced that former Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin would be returning to SmackDown. However, his return is being postponed due to an injury that requires major surgery.
As for other former stars who could be coming in, well, WWE has teased that Cryme Tyme [JTG and Shad], The Great Khali, Mickie James, Carlito, and several others may be returning to the company, although none of them have even hinted or confirmed that they will be returning. We’ve also heard that MVP and Kurt Angle may be returning to the company at some point, but it doesn’t look like either man will be returning anytime soon.
Now, according to SportsKeeda, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is interested in bringing back former WWE Tag-Team Champion John Morrison, who is currently working with Lucha Underground. Morrison left WWE in 2011, and on top of working with Lucha Underground since his departure, he’s been doing some acting work, along with some independent shows.
Morrison didn’t really leave WWE on bad terms, but he’s taken some shots at some of the company’s top stars since departing. In an interview with The World According to Wrestling, Morrison said that he’d eventually beat the crap out of Seth Rollins. He also said that he’d love wrestle Roman Reigns in 10 years when Reigns “figures out how to work.”
“Everyone knows some day I’m gonna beat the crap out of Seth Rollins – that would be awesome. I’d love to beat the crap out of him. I’d just love to have a great match with Seth Rollins. Roman Reigns, I’d love to wrestle him in like 10 years if he’s still wrestling, because by then hopefully he’d figure out how to work.”
There have been reports that Melina, who was Morrison’s longtime girlfriend and on-screen manager, is close to signing a deal to return to WWE. So, there’s a chance that the two could be brought back to the company together.
Morrison has also said that he would like to wrestle his former tag-team partner Joey Mercury if he returned to WWE. Of course, Mercury isn’t a full-time wrestler with WWE, but he is a producer who can still work if WWE needed him to. The last time we saw Mercury on WWE television was during J&J Security’s feud with the then WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

Now that Shelton Benjamin’s WWE return is being held off for the time being, WWE could be looking at bringing in another high-profile name from the past to take Benjamin’s place on the SmackDown roster, and Morrison could end up being that guy. Of course, if he were to go to SmackDown, he wouldn’t be able to wrestle Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins because both men are on the Raw brand.
The biggest reason why WWE is looking at bringing in veterans to fill out both rosters is because they’re looking to get established names to help put over some of their younger stars, which is one of the reasons why some ex-WWE stars haven’t really jumped at the chance to return. Furthermore, WWE’s offers have reportedly been really low, which is causing most of the veterans that they’ve contacted to turn down a comeback deal, and Morrison may end up being no different. Morrison has had a ton of success in Lucha Underground, so WWE will probably have to offer him a pretty good deal to get him to return to the company.
