Mama June Still Too Overweight To Have Excess Skin-Removal Surgery
Mama June, mother to Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, recently revealed that she’s looking to have surgery to remove several inches of excess skin since she lost over 150 pounds, but her doctor says she’s not medically ready.
Dr. Terry Dubrow–who is seen on the show Botched–says that June suffers from abdominal panniculus, meaning there is a layer of fatty tissue in her abdomen. The reality star has also had four C-section surgeries, which contributed to lots of loose skin around her middle. If she wants to have the surgery, he says, she’ll have to keep on losing.
“So BMI is the way we doctors figure out who’s an appropriate candidate for surgery and who should lose some more weight. Your BMI is 39, OK? So we like to see a BMI of like 28, so you lose 75 pounds, you come back to us, we’ll remove that and make you happy,” he said.

June had gastric sleeve surgery in March after having lost a major 90 pounds by dieting alone, and while many people might have been upset after hearing they still had a way to go, June says she thinks she can do it.
“Dr. Nassif and Dr. Dubrow gave me a lot of good information and hopefully in a couple months I’ll be back and make them kind of proud and say, ‘OK, yeah, we’re gonna do surgery now. This will be my reward for everything that I’ve done,'” June said on Botched.
Earlier this year, June underwent a procedure to remove her double chin in which a device was applied that froze the fat cells. The lengthy procedure is controversial, but the doctor responsible says she’s used it herself to great effect.
June revealed more changes earlier this year as well, telling Oprah that she bought a new home for herself and her girls about 90 miles away from their old one. The new place is a far cry from the modest home that was showcased on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which was very close to a set of train tracks, and June said she’s most excited about redecorating, although she’s allowing the girls to do their own thing with their rooms.

“I actually feel like it’s becoming our home. It’s a dramatic look. Pumpkin’s tagging her room, I’m picking my colors out. All of us have different taste I allow them to do their own creativity. I’m looking forward to the next adventure of the remodeling. It’s going to be well worth it,” June said, adding that she put in a chandelier as well.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled in 2014 after June was accused of dating a convicted sex offender following her divorce from Alana’s father. June said in a statement after the news of the cancellation that she had dated Mark McDaniel — ten years ago. Since she broke things off with him, she claims, she’s had nothing to do with him.
“The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue. I would not ever ever ever put my kids in danger,” June said in a video posted to Facebook at the time. She also denied that a photo of her with Mark was the real deal, saying it was clearly Photoshopped, but TLC elected to avoid scandal as much as possible and canceled the show.
“TLC has cancelled the series ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately. Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being,” the network said in a statement.
