Naughty Dog Provides An Update On ‘Uncharted 4’ Single-Player DLC Release Date
The multiplayer DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been completely mapped out for the next year, but there’s still a ton of questions surrounding the game’s single-player DLC, one of which is when it’s going to be completed, and released.
During a stream on Twitch, where Naughty Dog previewed Uncharted 4’s latest DLC, which is available now, the Sony-owned studio said that “it will be a while” before we hear more about the game’s single-player expansion. So, that probably means that we won’t be getting the single-player DLC until early next year.
Naughty Dog’s decision to produce a single-player expansion for Uncharted 4 is based on the success of Left Behind, which was the single-player DLC game for the 2013 game of the year, The Last of Us.
The Last of Us was released in June of 2013, and Left Behind was released about eight months later. So, with that timetable in mind, expect Uncharted 4’s DLC to be released in January or February of next year.According to GameSpot, Naughty Dog didn’t begin developing Uncharted 4’s single-player DLC until the game shipped in May. The company has promised to release more details on the project as soon as there’s more details to share.
The only info Naughty Dog has provided is that the DLC project will be somewhat inspired by The Last of Us: Left Behind, which probably means that the single-player DLC campaign will be very short, much like Left Behind was. Also, Left Behind took the focus off of the game’s main protagonist — Joel — and it focused on the backstory of Ellie. Many expect the same to happen with Uncharted 4’s DLC.
Many believe, because of its title — A Thief’s End— that Uncharted 4 will be the final game in the series. Furthermore, the title, and the ending of the game, suggests that the DLC will be built around Sam and Sully’s first adventure together.
Prior to the game’s epilogue, Sully explains to Sam that he has a dangerous job offer on the table, which leads to Sam offering his assistance. Then, in the epilogue, Nate and Elena’s daughter — Cassie — reads a letter from Sam and Sully, which shows a picture of the two of them on one of their adventures together, and because of that, many are speculating that we’ll see a Sam and Sully adventure in the single-player DLC.Another idea that’s been floating out there is that the single-player DLC will focus on Sully’s younger days. Of course, we got a brief look at Sully during his younger days in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, but we’ve never really had a look at the character’s complete backstory.
Some are hoping for another adventure featuring the game’s longtime protagonist, Nathan Drake, but Naughty Dog pretty much ended his journey in Uncharted 4’s main story. Of course, they could always do something where he goes to help Sam and Sully, or they could build it around one of him and Sam’s earliest adventures together.
The last idea that’s been thrown out there is that the DLC will be built around Cassie Drake, and if that adventure is well-received, then the franchise will be rebooted with her as the main character.
Naughty Dog has revealed that new Uncharted 4 multiplayer content will be released every season until the spring of 2017. So, expect the single-player DLC to be added into either the winter, or spring package. But just don’t expect to be playing it, or hear anything about what it’s going to be built around for quite a while.
