NBA Rumors: Brooklyn Nets To Sign Rajon Rondo In NBA Free Agency
Rajon Rondo is heading into NBA free agency as one of the top point guards available, and there are a few teams with interest in signing him. He is coming off of a very solid season with the Sacramento Kings, in which he seemed to keep his head on straight. There is no question that he improved his free agency value throughout the season and he will get paid a big deal this offseason.
There are quite a few teams with a need at the point guard position and there are not many to choose from on the market. Rondo will likely have a few different meetings, although one of them is known to already have been set.
According to a report from Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Rondo has a free agent visit scheduled with the Brooklyn Nets for the opening of free agency.

Last season with the Kings, Rondo ended up averaging 11.9 points and 11.7 assists per game. He also chipped in 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Those numbers show that he is still capable of stuffing the stat sheet and he would be a major upgrade for the Nets at the point guard position than what they worked with last season.
Unfortunately for the Nets, Rondo would not be able to power them back to a relevant team in the Eastern Conference without another big move or two.
Brook Lopez is one of the pieces that the Nets have left, but they traded Thaddeus Young to the Indiana Pacers earlier this offseason. Outside of Lopez and Rondo, the Nets would have pieces like Bojan Bogdanovic and Isaiah Whitehead to build around. There are a lot of needs that the Nets have, but adding Rondo would certainly help.
At 30 years old, it was obvious last season that Rondo still has a few big seasons of basketball left to play. He would not be a signing that trails off after the first year or two because of age.
There have been concerns about Rondo’s attitude at times throughout his career. He had some problems during his tenure with the Boston Celtics and had a major problem with the Dallas Mavericks after being traded by the Celtics. That could be somewhat of a concern for the Nets, although they are desperate for talent and cannot afford to let much stop them from getting a player who is interested in signing with them.
Brooklyn will not be the only team with serious interest in signing Rondo. There will be another team or two that will be aggressive in their pursuit of the star point guard as well. If the Nets want to beat the rest of the field out, they will need to come to the table with an aggressive offer immediately to open free agency.
It will be very intriguing to see which teams end up showing interest in Rondo alongside the Nets.
Sacramento seems like a team that could come calling trying to bring Rondo back. He could be interested in continuing to play alongside star big man DeMarcus Cousins.
Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding Rondo and the Nets when free agency opens up. He certainly seems to have interest in joining the Nets, which makes this something to keep an eye on. Brooklyn needs to capitalize on the mutual interest and get a deal done early on in free agency.
