Deep Fried Jambalaya Wins Texas State Fair Taste Test

Chef Abel Gonzales is a master of the deep fryer. The Texas Chef has won the Big Tex Choice Award for “Best Taste” at the Texas State Fair five times with delicious fattening dishes like his Fried Butter, Fried Coke, and Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana Sandwich. This year Gonzalez took home the top prize again with his Deep Fried Jambalaya.

Gonzalez said:

“I believe it’s a match made in heaven. It’s spicy, just like the State Fair.”

Gonzalez said that deep frying shrimp, sausage and Cajun seasonings wasn’t the easiest thing to do. The master deep-fryer said that he developed his recipe through trial and error and ended up gaining over 20 pounds from eating so much Deep Fried Jambalaya.

Gonzalez said:

“It’s trial and error. A lot of bad jambalaya was eaten before good jambalaya.”

Everything Lubbock reports that a Deep Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll won the most creative award.

The Texas State Fair also saw concoctions like Deep-Fried Divine Chocolate Tres Leches Cake, Chicken Fried Cactus Bites, Deep Fried Cotton Candy, Deep Fried Chicken and Waffles, and for those fried food connoisseurs who like grease more than actual food, Deep Fried Sugar Cubes.

On a completely unrelated note, a recent CDC study found that more than 30% of Texans are obese.
