WWE News: Trish Stratus Would Consider Returning For A Match With Sasha Banks
Trish Stratus is arguably the most popular WWE diva of all-time. She got a ton of attention when she debuted for the company in the spring of 2000, and she retired from the company as WWE Women’s Champion in September of 2006.
Since her retirement, Trish has had a few matches, but she hasn’t come back for a good, long run. But now that WWE is putting in emphasis on women’s wrestling, she’s at least willing to consider coming back to the ring, and she has one opponent in mind.
During an interview with Ring Rust Radio, Trish was asked about the possibility of a WWE return and whom she would like to get in the ring with if she ever did make a return to the squared-circle. She also admitted that the lack of depth in WWE’s divas division is what prevented her from returning to the ring in the past, because there wasn’t really any female wrestler she felt like she could have a great match with.
Trish named Natalya as someone who she’d like to get in the ring with, but as for a big match opponent, the former Women’s Champ said that she would consider coming back to wrestle Sasha Banks.
“Would it make sense for me to come back and fight Sasha Banks? I will never close the door if there is something that will challenge me. It would have to be a challenge to me, it would have to elevate someone else on the show and it would need to be something exciting for the fans.
“What do they want to see? They always ask who I would go back to work for and one person is Nattie. She isn’t one of the top current girls, but I never got a chance to work with her and it would be kind of dream to be able to.”
Right now, there are a ton of girls that Trish Stratus could have a great match with should she ever decide to return, as Becky Lynch, Paige, Charlotte, and Asuka – if she ever gets called-up to the main roster – would all be fantastic opponents for her.
Trish has been offered several comeback matches in the past, and she’s turned them down because she felt like she wouldn’t be able to make a big impact by participating in the purposed matches.
We haven’t seen Trish in the ring since 2011, where she was involved in a brief storyline with Vicki Guerrero, Layla, Michelle McCool, Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, and of course, Snooki. But she did look good during that brief run, and she’s obviously still in great shape, so she’s definitely able to come back and put on a great performance if she ever decides to do so.
Trish has admitted in previous interviews that she would love to work with former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, and it’s no secret that WWE badly wants to get her to wrestle a match at next year’s WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. But are they planning Ronda vs. Trish? Probably not.
Could we see Trish Stratus vs. Sasha Banks at WrestleMania next year? Possibly. It’s certainly a WrestleMania-worthy match up. Also, unless plans change, Sasha won’t be in the Women’s Championship picture next year in Orlando, as WWE is looking at having Charlotte defend the title against recent NXT call-up Dana Brooke. If that ends up happening, then Sasha’s dance card will be open, and Trish may be offered a spot as her dance partner at next year’s WrestleMania 33.
